Marching

by kopano maroga

i don’t know where all our time went

one minute we are in love in a sun dappled forest

the next we are in rooms where your gaze goes right through me

i lost weight

i lost sleep

i lost hair

i lost my reflection

sometimes loss reminds you that there are things worth holding onto

and if you lose yourself

maybe this is a chance to re-imagine who you think you are

maybe you kiss with your eyes open

fuck strangers with the lights on

tell a boy you love him and watch his face bloom in the sunlight

i marched through the wreckage behind my sternum

i made it out the other side

i survived; i was not spared
