A Task

Louise Westerhout

“One afternoon, I set myself a project. To photograph myself in all of the 6 rooms of my house in Observatory, in which I have lived for 22 years. My body has been through many cycles in this house; young woman, mother, at death’s door with Stage 4 cancer, middle age. I have dressed in all the rooms, danced, shouted, cried, been lonely, wished I were alone. I have fallen and risen countless times in this place.  My house is a part of me, my second skin. In each room, I gave myself 15 min to conceptualise, dress and shoot and had to arrange myself and interact within the 10 seconds of the self-timer. The photos incorporate the other members of the house incidentally, my son and my cats.”
